Oil Prices Fall Again as Talks to End the Iran War Continue

Qatar is helping to carry messages between Iran and the United States.

A war involving Iran has gone on for about eight months. On Tuesday 3 November, hopes of peace talks pushed the price of oil down for a second day.

The talks are not simple. Qatar is acting as a go-between, which is called a mediator. It said its team held talks in Tehran, Iran’s capital, to stop things getting worse. President Trump said Iran wants “to make a deal and that could happen.”

Iran’s answer was more careful. Its foreign ministry spokesman, Esmaeil Baqaei, said Iran will reject diplomacy based on pressure and threats. Vice President Vance still said he feels good about a possible settlement.

Ships sail through the Strait of Hormuz, a sea passage near Iran. A shipping group reported at least 4 attacks on ships in November, in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman.

Europe’s Hera Spacecraft Spots Two Asteroids NASA Studied

The pair is about 197 million kilometres from Earth.

HOW WIDE ARE THE ASTEROIDS? Width in metres

Dimorphos is about 151 metres wide and Didymos about 780 metres.

In 2022, NASA’s DART spacecraft crashed into an asteroid called Dimorphos, which circles Didymos. Now Europe’s Hera spacecraft is arriving to look.

On 18 October Hera took a picture from about 1,280 kilometres away. For the first time, it showed Didymos and Dimorphos as two separate objects, not one dot of light. Dimorphos is about 151 metres across, and Didymos is about 780 metres.

The crash shortened Dimorphos’s trip around Didymos by about 33 minutes. First detailed pictures are due on 25 November.
