Oil Stays Near $109 as Gulf Fears Last

Reports of tanker trouble near the Strait of Hormuz keep prices high.

📍 Strait of Hormuz · Iran, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Yemen

Oil is a fuel that ships carry all around the world. Its price is quoted per barrel. On Tuesday, Brent crude, a main world price, ended at $108.82 a barrel. Fears about supply keep the price high.

The fears come from two places. The Houthis, a group in Yemen, said on Monday that they attacked several Saudi Arabian sites. Saudi officials did not immediately confirm this, and Reuters, a news agency, could not check it.

Ships are also in the news. Iran's Revolutionary Guards said their sea mines stopped three tankers near the Strait of Hormuz. US Central Command said that was false. Iran and the United States are still talking, through Pakistan and Qatar.

Delhi's Air Turns “Poor” as Curbs Begin

The capital starts its first pollution rules of the season.

DELHI AIR QUALITY INDEX AQI reading (higher is dirtier)

Wednesday's reading was taken at 2 pm. Source: ANI.

Delhi is the capital of India. Its air is measured with the Air Quality Index, or AQI. A higher number means dirtier air. On Tuesday 20 October the AQI was 179.

By 2 pm on Wednesday it had risen to 244. That counts as “poor” air. Because of this, officials began Stage I of their pollution plan across Delhi and nearby towns. It is the first time this season.

Weather experts say the air will probably stay poor for the next few days. The Delhi Metro will add 20 trips on weekdays from Thursday.
