Oil is a fuel that ships carry all around the world. Its price is quoted per barrel. On Friday, Brent crude, a main world price, rose to about $114.50 a barrel. Later in the day it reached $117.20.

The price rose after more attacks on Saudi Arabia. The Houthis, a group in Yemen, said they hit the defence ministry in Riyadh, airports at Dammam and Abha, and an oil site at Yanbu. These are the Houthis' own claims. Two people died in attacks at Dammam airport.

Saudi Aramco, the kingdom's oil company, then moved people out of its headquarters in Dhahran. It was the first such move since the war with Iran began. Oil was on track to rise for a third week in a row.

Protests About the Cost of Living Spread in Europe

People in several countries say life has become too expensive.

Prices for fuel and rent have gone up in many European countries. People there have marched to say schools and public services are not good enough. In France, high school students began the protests more than three weeks ago, asking for more teachers and better buildings.

A trade union, a group that speaks for workers, then joined them. Some marches turned violent, and French police made 2,400 arrests over one weekend. President Emmanuel Macron condemned the violence and blamed far-left activists.

In Italy, inflation, the rate at which prices rise, was 4.2% in September. That was higher than the 3.8% for countries that share the euro. In Spain, the prime minister has called an election for November.

In Albania, students have joined a movement in the capital, Tirana. It wants Prime Minister Edi Rama to resign and asks for an end to corruption. Mr Rama has called the protesters “ideologized and radicalized.”

United States Elections

Early Voting Surges Before the Midterms

More than 16 million Americans have already voted.

On 3 November, Americans vote in the midterm elections. They are held halfway through a president's term, and they decide who controls Congress, the group that makes the country's laws.

Many people vote early, by mail or in person. The University of Florida's Election Lab counted more than 16 million early votes in 41 states and Washington, D.C. About 10 million came by mail, and about 6 million were cast in person.

The Associated Press, a news agency, found huge jumps in Kansas and Texas. Maine, North Carolina and Ohio each saw at least 30% more early votes than four years ago.

Delhi's Air Stays “Poor” as Pollution Curbs Begin

The city has started its winter plan to clean the air.

Delhi is a city of about 30 million people. Its air is worst in winter, from November to January. On Friday morning the air quality index, a number that measures how dirty the air is, was 223. That is in the “poor” group.

The air is likely to stay poor through Sunday. The main causes are coal-fired power plants, traffic, building work and farmers burning crop leftovers nearby.

Officials have started a set of curbs. Open garbage burning is banned, and food stalls must stop using coal or firewood. From 1 November, parking fees double and government office staff work from home. A full ban on building and demolition work will run from 10 December to 20 January.
