Missiles Hit an Oil Building in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia says a Houthi missile struck an Aramco office in Dhahran on Tuesday.

Saudi Arabia is fighting a war with the Houthis, a group in Yemen. Yemen is the country just south of Saudi Arabia. On Saturday, a missile hit the main airport in Riyadh, the Saudi capital. Saudi officials say at least 13 people were killed and more than 300 were hurt.

The fighting has now reached an oil company. On Tuesday, a missile hit an office building at Aramco’s base in Dhahran. Aramco is Saudi Arabia’s giant oil company. Saudi news said there was a small fire and nobody was hurt. The Houthis say they did it, and they promise more attacks on Saudi airports and oil sites.

Saudi Arabia is hitting back. It struck an oil site near Sanaa, Yemen’s capital, on Tuesday. President Trump says the United States is thinking about joining the Saudi side. When he was asked, he said, “We may.” The US Embassy in Riyadh has told Americans to reconsider travelling to Saudi Arabia. Riyadh’s airport is closed until at least Saturday.

Why it matters

Oil and airports are things many countries rely on. When they are hit, people far from Yemen can feel it.
