Houthi Missile Hits Saudi Oil Company Office
The war in Yemen has now reached Saudi Arabia’s biggest oil company.
Yemen is a country just south of Saudi Arabia. A group there called the Houthis is fighting its government, which Saudi Arabia backs. In recent days the Houthis have aimed missiles at Saudi targets.
On Saturday, a missile hit King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia’s capital. Saudi aviation officials say at least 13 people were killed and more than 300 were hurt. On Tuesday, a ballistic missile hit an office building at the Dhahran base of Aramco, the Saudi oil company. Saudi news said there was a small fire and nobody was hurt. The Houthis claimed it and promised more attacks on airports and oil sites.
Saudi Arabia answered by striking an oil site near Sanaa, Yemen’s capital. The Saudi-led coalition told civilians to leave an oil depot in the city. President Trump says the United States is thinking about joining Saudi Arabia’s side. Asked if it would, he said, “We may.”
Why it matters
Airports and oil sites serve people far from the fighting. When they are hit, travel and fuel prices can feel it, and a wider war becomes more likely.
