Riyadh's Airport Stays Shut After More Attacks

Saudi Arabia says new missiles and drones came in on Monday.

Riyadh is the capital of Saudi Arabia. Its main airport has been hit again and again. On Saturday, Saudi Arabia says, at least 12 people were killed and at least 309 were hurt. It was the third attack on that airport in one week, and flights were stopped for a time.

The attackers are the Houthis, a group in Yemen that gets help from Iran. Yemen is the country just south of Saudi Arabia. Its government is fighting the Houthis, and Saudi Arabia helps that government from the air. The United Nations envoy for Yemen says the country is back in full-scale war.

Now the fight may grow. President Trump says he is thinking about joining the Saudi side. A Houthi leader warns of a swift and painful answer if he does. Riyadh's airport is still closed, and Saudi Arabia reported more drones and missiles on Monday.

Why it matters

An airport is where people from many countries meet. Eight of the dead came from other countries, so this attack reaches far beyond Saudi Arabia.
