Airport Attacks Keep Coming in Saudi Arabia

A deadly missile strike on Riyadh's main airport was followed by another one a day later.

Riyadh is the capital of Saudi Arabia. On Saturday, a missile hit its main airport, King Khalid International. Saudi officials said 12 people were killed and 309 were wounded. The dead came from many countries, including Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh and the United States.

The Houthis, a group from Yemen that gets help from Iran, said on Sunday that they had attacked the airport. Another strike hit it on Sunday evening and hurt more people. The airport has stopped its flights, and schools in Riyadh are learning from home for a week.

Saudi Arabia says it will hit back firmly. Yemen's government, helped by Saudi Arabia, began an attack on October 4 to win back land held by the Houthis. A peace deal that had mostly held since 2022 has fallen apart. President Trump says the United States may join in.

Why it matters

Airports are how people and goods travel. When one of the busiest in a country shuts, passengers, families and workers in many other places are affected too. A war that stayed in Yemen for years is now reaching Saudi Arabia's capital.
